Guyana: Rayad Mohamed charged for robbing pump attendants

Rayad Mohamed, a 22-year-old Fisherman, resident of Lancaster/Unity, East Coast Demerara, Guyana charged with the offence of Robbery under arms. It is to be noted that, he was accused of robbing pump attendants at KK Gas Station on 5 November 2023 at around 1:32 hr.
Notably, Mohamed is accused of robbing two men. The victims have been identified as Naresh Luke, 47-year-old, resident of Unity, Mahaica and 33-year-old Bhajart Jaggernauth, resident of Unity Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
Mohamed was taken to the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court, where the charges were read to him. He was pleaded not guilty and was granted bail with the sum of $70,000. The case has been postponed to 6 February 2024.
It is to be noted that one more man, along with Mohamed, has been accused of committing robbery. The other man has not been caught yet by the officials of Guyana.
Moreover, one of the news channels shared the CCTV footage which shows that two men, one armed with a cutlass while another with a gun robbed the two pump attendants. Following robbery, both the suspects flew away from the crime spot.
As per the information, Mohamed was confronted while he was in the village. Following his confrontation, Mohamed was beaten and set on fire in the village by residents of Unity between 10:55 and 11:00 hr on 6 November 2023.
The police personnel visited and observed the victim. Mohamed was lying on the road surface; his body appeared to have burn marks. Then, he was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where he was examined by doctors on duty and was later admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Furthermore, this case has received a lot of public response. One comment read, “I know when I read this story earlier, something wasn’t right about it because why would people beat and burn you for no reason, but you were the culprit in the crime.”
