Crime in Jamaica: Pregnant woman gunned down, skeletal remains found in burnt car

In another incident, a 26-year-old pregnant woman was shot and murdered on the evening of Monday. This horrific incident took place at the intersection of Heywood and Orange streets.

Kingston, Jamaica: The murder rate on the island is spearheading. In another incident, a 26-year-old pregnant woman was shot and murdered on the evening of Monday. This horrific incident took place at the intersection of Heywood and Orange streets.

The deceased has been identified as Shanteva Griffiths. The police report confirms that the woman was working at a liquor store on Orange Street. It is estimated that the murder happened at around 6:20 pm.

The police arrived at the crime scene soon after the incident was reported. The area was immediately cordoned off, & the vehicles were diverted from Orange street to downtown Kingston.

The motive behind the killing and the murderer has yet not been identified, while no official statement yet has been made by the police authorities regarding the killing. However, the investigation has been started.

In another incident, skeletal remains has been found in a totally burnt-out Nissan AD Wagon car by the St James Police officers at Torado Heights, Coral Gardens, in the parish region.

The police is looking into the matter & commenced an investigation.

The body was initially discovered by the locals on early Sunday morning, and the police officials were informed.

The skeletal remains were taken to the morgue for storage and post mortem. This will further prove to be very fruitful in the probe.

No other information has yet been discovered of the remains.

These types of horrendous incidents engrave fear in the minds of the general public, imprinting a fear that they are not safe. In the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the crime rate of Jamaica has increased at a very higher rate.

With this, now Jamaica is the Caribbean island who’s having the highest crime rate in the region. To control the rising killings is another difficult task in front of the Jamaican government while the nation also battles with the deadliest COVID-19 virus.

The government has imposed a ‘state of emergency’ in the hotspot regions of crime, giving full authority to the police administrators to take any measure they can in order to curb the spread of the mutant.
