The crime rate in the Bahamas is increasing rapidly as the country recorded its first double murder for 2024 on Wednesday. It is to be noted that the deceased was identified as a 29-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman.
At the crime scene, there were three cars riddled with bullets. Police are currently making a grim discovery in the grey cube.
According to the preliminary reports, it is observed that the duo was driving to the west along Prince Charles Drive just before the afternoon. As they reached the intersection with College Gardens, their car was approached by another vehicle.
Notably, the occupants of another vehicle began shooting at them. Further to this, the gunmen hurriedly escaped by fleeing west on Prince Charles Drive.
Noting this, the people around the area later found their vehicles abandoned on Hanna Road in the Bahamas. As per the statement of officers, it is believed that the victims died on the scene due to multiple shots fired on them.
Moreover, a seven-year-old, who was a passenger in a nearby vehicle, sustained minor injuries from the shattered glass. It is to be noted that this murder took the 2024 homicide figure to four.
However, the identities of the dead persons were not disclosed by the police yet. It is to be added in the remarks of the police that the man was out on bail for an attempted armed robbery.
Moreover, the suspect is allegedly known as Smith, and he is no stranger to law enforcement as he had initially faced charges for the possession of firearms and manslaughter.
In 2017, Smith was also charged in connection with the murder of Levardo Sherman Devaux, but he was acquitted of those charges as well.
Many people took to their official social media handles to express their condolences for the duo who was killed in this heinous act of inhumanity.
Additionally, such stances on the crimes put the safety of common citizens and the nation at large at risk. While keeping in mind the welfare and safety of the people, there is a need to take strict actions to deal with such crimes.
