After the long wait, over 100,000 doses of Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine reached Trinidad and Tobago on Caribbean airlines Wednesday morning.
Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Terrance Deyalsingh went to receive the vaccines that arrived in the early hours of Wednesday.
The doses are donated by the People’s Republic of China to help Trinidad and Tobago combat the increasing number of coronavirus cases. The country is undergoing a massive new wave of COVID-19, which have overwhelmed the medical infrastructure.
Health Minister Terrance Deyalsingh has assured people that the country is equipped with enough oxygen to deal with the respiratory health emergency.
He also assured people that the Sinopharm vaccine is safe and have certification from the World Health Organization. The Sinopharm doses would be utilized to immunize the elderly people at the care homes and also the front line workers of the country.
Some of the hospitals in Trinidad and Tobago are at their full capacities as the coronavirus cases are increasing rapidly. As the virus surge, the government is aiming at protecting the general public by assuring that all people receive the coronavirus vaccine.
Earlier, Trinidad and Tobago utilized the Astrazeneca vaccine donated by Covax and India. More than 60,000 people have received their first doses already.
