Trinidad and Tobago Police, three held for cutting cable wires

Trinidad and Tobago: Three men were arrested shortly after reporting the theft of Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) cables in the La Horquetta district early this morning.

Reports say officers of the La Horquetta Police Station were alerted to three men observed cutting TSTT wires along Tumpuna Road South, in the vicinity of the San Raphael RC Church, around 1:35 am on 29 April 2022, Friday.

Upon seeing the officers, the men attempted to escape by running into some nearby bushes. Assistance was sought from a TSTT response team, and the officers subsequently observed the three men enter a white Kia van and drive off.

The officers gave chase, and the vehicle was intercepted a short distance away. A search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding three-bolt and cable cutters.

The three men, ages 20 to 25, of Couva and Carapichaima, were arrested in connection with the incident. Investigations in the matter are ongoing.

Another case reported by Trinidad and Tobago Police Service was that A 19-year-old camera installation technician was granted bail with a surety for $200,000 or a cash alternative of $25,000 when he appeared before a Couva Magistrate this week, charged with sexual grooming of a child, knowingly creating child pornography, two counts of sexual penetration of a child, via video recording and knowingly having possession of child pornography.

Austin Samaroo, of Bank Village, Carapichaima, was charged with the offences when he appeared before Magistrate Alexander Prince on Wednesday, 27 April 2022.

The accused was ordered to report that the Freeport Police Station once per week, to have no contact with the victim or her family members directly or indirectly, to have not communicated with the victim or her family members directly or indirectly and not to be close to the victim or her family members.

Allegedly, during the period January 2021 to February 2021, the accused communicated with the victim on social media. In September 2021, the accused visited the victim’s home and had sexual intercourse with her.

A report was made to the Freeport Police Station, the Child Protection Unit was contacted, and an investigation was launched into the matter with the assistance of the Cyber Crime Unit. The investigations revealed the accused made a video recording of his interaction with the victim.

He was arrested on Tuesday, 24 April 2022, and the charges were laid on 26 April 2022.
