Trinidad and Tobago Police Seize Gun and Ammo in Port-of-Spain

Trinidad and Tobago: Port-of-Spain Division Task Force (PoSDTF) Officers seized a firearm and a quantity of ammunition during a search exercise on the morning of October 19, 2022.
Crime scene experts are currently tracking the pistol and 12 rounds of 45 calibre ammunition.
According to police reports, PoSDTF officers were executing search warrants exercises overnight at several locations reported to house firearms and ammunition. During one of the operations, police received information about a group of men standing in the back of the Mango Rose Plannings, Port-of-Spain, acting suspiciously.
Upon reaching the location, police observed the group of men standing behind one of the buildings, with one of the men holding a firearm in his right hand.
The group, however, spotted the police vehicle and began running away from the location.
The armed man subsequently dropped the firearm before escaping through a track along Duke Street.
Investigations are ongoing, informed PoSDTF.
Earlier, AR-15 Rifle Seized- Marabella Man Arrested by Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service continue to execute strategies and conduct operations aimed at removing illegal guns from communities. Officers of the Southern Division were successful in such efforts when they seized a high-powered automatic weapon and ammunition and arrested a man in connection with the seizure during a firearms removal exercise.
On Monday, 17th October 2022, officers executed a search warrant at a house located at New City Avenue, Marabella. Upon searching the premises, the officers found and seized one AR-15 rifle, fitted with a magazine containing ten rounds of 5.56 ammunition. A 61-year-old labourer was arrested for the offences of Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.
The exercise was coordinated by Senior Supt. Richard Smith, Supt. Carthy, ASP Jaikaran and Inspector Phillip and were supervised by Sgt. Joseph, Sgt. Mason, Ag/Cpl Bahadur, Ag/Cpl Lancaster and included officers of the Southern Division Task Force.
