Ti Vilaj Kweyol marks grand opening ceremony, celebrating vibrant culture and traditions of Dominica

Dominica marked the opening ceremony of Ti Vilaj Kweyol under the theme “Kilti A Bien Doubout-Culture Still Standing” at Botanic Gardens on Monday. The event opened with a great start, creating a lively venue for all the attendees, celebrating the vibrant culture and traditions of the Nature Isle.

This event is a great platform for all the citizens to immerse themselves in the rich culture, music and local crafts, creating an unforgettable memory, offering plethora of experiences to all the attendees.

The Parliamentary Representative, Melissa Poponne Skerrit addressed everyone in the opening ceremony and stated that this Ti Vilaj Kweyol is a reminder to all the citizens that how deeply rooted, they are in their customs and values.

She stated that Ti Vilaj Kweyol is not just an event, but a movement to promote local entrepreneurship, small business and artisans. The Minister added that they are encouraging the growth of the local industries and supporting the livelihoods of people by giving them a platform to showcase their talent, skills, abilities and techniques.

“From our food, our craft, our music, and our dance to our unique style of living. And we are encouraging the growth of our local industries and supporting the livelihoods of our people,” noted Minister Melissa Poponne Skerrit.

NURSING NOOK

Moreover, Minister Melissa Skerrit further mentioned about introducing a golden feature, a nursing nook. This place would work as a dedicated changing space for toddlers and infants, creating a comfortable environment for both children and parents.

Minister Skerrit asserted that this space will be permanently placed in Roseau for people from the rural areas who come to town with their young children, and lack a suitable place to breastfeed and to change diapers.

She also announced her partnership with UN Women, to establish the first ever nursing station at Ti Vilaj Kweyol. For the same, she extended her heartfelt thanks to their representatives for their invaluable support towards strengthening their collaboration with UN Women as they all strive to improve the lives of women worldwide.

Minister Melissa Poponne Skerrit stated that this addition prioritizes the well-being of mothers and children, offering a safe and comfortable environment to care for the little ones. She also shed light on Ti Vilaj Kweyol and stated that they are dedicated to making the event an inclusive space for everyone in the family.

ROSEAU TRANSFORMATION

Minister Melissa Skerrit also shed light on the progress in transforming Roseau into a vibrant modern city while preserving its cultural essence. She mentioned about the upcoming infrastructure road project which will play a huge role in modernizing the infrastructure road project.

The Minister added that it is not just about roads and economic growth, but a part of their broader vision which will includes improving the housing landscape.

She added that they are committed to rehabilitate traditional homes in and around the city, preserving their integrity and historical significance, while providing the citizens with safe and comfortable living spaces.

DOMINICA CLUB SITE

Melissa Minister Skerrit also highlighted about the completion of the former Dominica club site. She added that this place would play a huge role in creating a hub, offering the citizens with diverse activities and facilities like tennis, pickleball, skating, and badminton.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS VILLAGE

The Minister stated that the annual Christmas village has been growing year after year. She noted that this event is a great platform for small businesses and providing several opportunities to the local entrepreneurs.
