St Kitts and Nevis Attorney-General Garth Wilkin to represent National Assembly at UN State House in Washington DC

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Attorney-General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs for the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis – Garth Wilkin has earlier this week shared a glimpse of his trip to the United States of America. While informing about the schedule for this week, Attorney General stated that this week he would be representing the National Assembly of St Kitts and Nevis at the United States House of Representatives Democracy Partnership Summit for Democracy in Washington, DC.
He further stated that one of the topics for discussion, held on March 29, 2023, was “Free and Fair Elections – The Role of Congress in Promoting Sound Election Policies and Voter Participation.” While sharing his take on the topic, he noted, “Free, fair, and transparent elections are not merely a technical endeavour, but a test of democratic institutions; a way to link interests of citizens to government, and a way to assure that democracy delivers.”
Furthermore, he mentioned the voting right and duties of every citizen. Free, fair, and transparent elections are important for the democratic success of the country. “In this panel, we discussed parliamentary mechanisms to ensure electoral integrity,” Attorney General mentioned.
While informing about the earlier discussions, Attorney General Wilkin outlined that on March 28, 2023, the discussion was held about “The Legislature’s Role in Promoting Anti-Corruption Initiatives”, which was immensely important as all the attendees rolled out the Good Governance Transformation over the next few weeks.
“I was particularly pleased to dialogue with Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, an MP from Ukraine, to whom I relayed our admiration for her people’s resolve and with whom I discussed legislative and diplomatic actions being taken in Ukraine,” he noted, adding, “The many lessons learned during this week will buttress your Government’s aggressive legislative reform agenda, for the benefit of our people.”
