President Ali conferred with Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow Award

President of Guyana – Dr Irfaan Ali, has been conferred with the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow Award at State House on Monday.

Guyana: President of Guyana – Dr Irfaan Ali, has been conferred with the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow Award at State House on Monday.

President Ali, who received two pins and a certificate from the President of the Rotary Club, Mrs Ramona Singh, recognized the not-for-profit organization for its consistent and continued approach to improving the livelihood of the various communities.

President Ali cited that Rotary sets an example with its lead in the fight against hunger and other social issues and added that, “I was very pleased to see members of the Rotary playing a leading role in the vaccination drive for the children.”

“According to me, these things are great instances, not only for us as leaders but great instances for the rest of Guyana island as to how we support and motivate each other, how we all can work together in helping each other, and making our society more humane & one in which humanity wins at the end of the day,” following the statement, President Ali noted.

The President of the Rotary Club emphasized the importance of the award and stated that it had been the tradition of the Rotary Club of Georgetown that started with Guyana’s first President, Arthur Chung. Despite this, she also highlighted that the Paul Harris Fellow Award holds special significance to the club, and it matches with Rotary’s motto of – ‘Service-Above-Self.’

Simultaneously with becoming a Paul Harris Fellow, the President also received a pin as a patron of the Rotary Club of Georgetown. The Paul Harris Fellow Award is one of the highest honour a club can present to an individual. The not-for-profit organization was founded by Paul Harris.

In addition, the Head of the State attended the 16th Special Emergency Meeting of the Conference of Heads of government of the Caribbean Community – (CARICOM) virtually in which he addressed and put a light on the accord established between the Government of Venezuela and its opposition last week in Mexico City.
