PM Mia Mottley writes to Indian PM Modi, shares solidarity

Barbados: Barbadian Prime Minister wrote a letter to the India Prime Minister Narendra Modi to show solidarity as his country experiences a massive surge in COVID-19 cases.

Mia Amor Mottley said that she felt sad and will always stand in support and solidarity with the Government of India and the people of India. She expressed her sorrow for the rising number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in India.

She shared her views on the exhausting financial and human resources of the Government and people of India due to the rising effect of the COVID-19 Virus. India reported new strains of COVID-19 resulting in the loss of many lives.

PM Mottley stated that Barbados will always stand in support and continuing the assistance that they can give as long as possible to India and the people of India in future.

Furthermore, she also thanked the Indian Government for donating 100,000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine to Barbados. This donation is an act of kindness by the govt, of India towards Barbados.

Barbados and India relations

Barbados and India shares a longstanding diplamatic relations with each other. The Diplomatic relations between Barbados and India were established on 30 November 1966. On the same day, India gifted a throne that is still in the Barbadian House of Assembly, which is still a symbol of friendship in both countries.

These two countries also share one more common culture that is known as cricket.

The team of each other’s country often visits both countries for the cricket tournaments many Barbadian cricketers are playing Indian Premier League. Carlos Brathwaite, Dwayne Smith, Jason Holder are a few of them.

Barbados and India have been engaged in bilateral trade of US$10.67 million through import and exports going between both countries, whether it’s the import of electronic appliances, optical and cinematic photography types of equipment from Barbados to India or export of vehicles, pharmaceuticals, iron, steel and organic chemicals from India to Barbados.

Mia Amor Mottley remembering all these thanked again for the support by Indian to Barbados in this critical situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
