Over 1 million Jamaicans vaccinated against COVID-19

Jamaica has achieved the milestone of vaccinating more than one million of its population prior to the deadline decided.
The Ministry of Health shared the information via a media release, which notes that so far, more than 1,000,455 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the island nation, out of which 553,341 were first doses while 391,782 were second doses and 55,333 the single-dose vaccine.
On surpassing this milestone, Prime Minister Andrew Holness cited, “I am happy to note that we have administered 1,000,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses. I’m even happier that we were able to reach this target three weeks early. Thanks to each and every Jamaican who decided to get vaccinated and especially to those who became vaccine ambassadors! You are the heroes on the scene”.
PM Holness further encouraged the remaining citizens to get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible in order to get back to normalcy.
While, on the other hand, the Health and Wellness Minister appreciated the dedication and efforts of the healthcare workers for working tirelessly to vaccinate Jamaicans via vaccination sites, blitz and community outreach.
Following the statement, the Health Minister further asserted, “I also want to thank our partners in the private sector who have given their contribution to this effort,” adding that the island still needs to vaccinate its remaining population.
“I hope this milestone will encourage Jamaicans who are yet not vaccinated to come on board. Vaccination saves lives and is the most effective response to the COVID-19 virus in order to restore normalcy back in our lives,” the health minister emphasized.
According to the statistics, till now, 20.4 percent of Jamaica’s population has received its first jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 14.6 per cent population has received their required number of vaccine doses and is fully vaccinated.
The doses which are being administered in the island nation is – AstraZeneca, Pzifer and Johnson & Johnson. The citizens can visit the website – vaccination.moh.gov.jm or can either call at – 888-ONE-LOVE (663-5683) if they have any queries related to the COVID vaccination sites.
