Members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) paid a courtesy call on Minister of Health – Dr Frank Anthony at his Brickdam office on April 4.

Guyana: Members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) paid a courtesy call on Minister of Health – Dr Frank Anthony at his Brickdam office on April 4, 2022 (Sunday).
The members of the IAEA included were Saskia Frater-Smith – Programme Management Officer from the Division of Latin America and the Caribbean, and Virginia Tsapaki – Technical Officer, Medical Physicist from the Human Health Division.
The attendees of the meeting were Dr Narine Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Ministry of Health; Petal Surujpaul, National Liason Officer, IAEA and Medical Physicist at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC); Dr Vasha Bachan, IAEA Focal Point of the Ministry of Health and Dishon Lanferman, Acting National Liason Assistant, IAEA.
The main focus of the meeting was fostering collaborations between the agencies. The visiting team took the opportunity to discuss the IAEA’s technical cooperation programme with Guyana in health.
The Minister expressed pleasure after meeting with the members of the Atomic Energy Agency. He also mentioned that both the agencies have been collaborating on various development projects.
“This morning, I met with Saskia Frater-Smith, Programme Management Officer, Division of Latin America and the Caribbean and Virginia Tsapaki- Technical Officer, Medical Physicist, Human Health Division International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). We are collaborating on several projects,” the Minister stated.
Health Minister regularly shares health tips to raise awareness about any common disease. Recently, Dr Anthony shared the symptoms of low blood sugar.
The Minister wrote:
The symptoms of low blood sugar may differ from one person to another. The early stages symptoms of low blood sugar in a person can be:
1. Sweat or tremble
2. Feel hungry
3. Feel worried
People who have early symptoms should check their blood sugar level to see if it is low and needs to be treated. These can include:
1. Trouble walking or feeling weak
2. Trouble seeing clearly
3. Being confused or acting in a strange way
4. Passing out or having a seizure
