St.Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris confirms that the Federation of St.Kitts and Nevis continues duty-free allowance till January 31, 2021, via his official account on Facebook.
Why is there a need for a duty-free allowance?
Day by day, cases of coronavirus are increasing, so are challenges. The impact of covid-19 is creating trouble for many people. Understanding the hour of need, the Government of SKN has declared the decision to elongate it’s duty-free granting on goods until January 31, 2021.
PM Timothy Harris announced, “My Government (SKN) has been observant to the interests from various local couriers, transportation agents, and their consumers, as it relates to the shipment of products by suppliers in the United States to their facilities in Miami; the said products should have arrived in the Government in December 2020.”
“However, due to backlogs in Miami, these products did not arrive by the December 31, 2020 (deadline). Consequently, our citizens and residents of SKN could not profit from the usual US$200.00 concessionary allowance on their imports. In light of this, it is agreed that to facilitate non-commercial entities importing goods, the subsidies will be extended to January 31, 2021, he added.
Health care investments:
On the other hand, the government of SKN is investing in the field health sectors. PM posted a post in which it stated,” Government of SKN and health sector finances will improve SKN’s elemental health care delivery, step up our fight toward Non-communicable diseases and state of the art of the Cardia Unit at the JNF Hospital will be another significant deliverable.”
