Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit handed over keys of newly built climate-resilient homes to 12 Dominican families on Thursday, December 23, 2021.
These homes have been built by the Dominican administration under the Housing Recovery Project that the World Bank has funded.
Congratulating the recipients, Prime Minister Skerrit wrote on his Facebook post, “Congratulations to the twelve individuals who received keys to their new homes this morning, under the Dominica Housing Recovery Project”.
The Dominican government initiated the Housing Recovery Project in the month of February 2019 with the motive to provide climate-resilient homes up to 500 square feet against natural disasters to the individuals whose homes were entirely destroyed by Hurricane Maria 2017.
The Cabinet Minister Reginald Austrie also accompanied the prime minister in the handing over ceremony.
The government holds the vision to make Dominica – the worlds’ first-ever climate-resilient nation.

Earlier this year, in the month of June, the government of Dominica handed over ten new climate-resilient homes in Cochrane. Then the PM Skerrit cited, “Once you have a decent housing accommodation with access to the amenities, water facility and lights. This will definitely increase the standard of living of Dominicans”.
The general public of the island has appreciated the efforts of the PM Skerrit government for their efforts to strengthen the infrastructure and to enhance citizens’ standard of living.
On the Facebook post of the prime minister, one of the social media users named – Melonie Royer commented, “I love to hear this wonderful news. Congratulations to all the owners and more grace to PM Skerrit and the Government of Dominica”.
Meanwhile, Suzanne Henderson asserted, “Congratulations, Great job to the PM and Minister of Housing who continues to deliver to the people of Dominica”.
In addition, this week on Tuesday, the officials of the Dominican administration and the Chinese Ambassador exchanged letters to restore six school facilities, which Hurricane Maria destroyed.
