Dominica: The Commonwealth of Dominica celebrates its Independence Day on November 3 each year, and in 2022, the nation will proudly celebrate its 44th Independence Day. The island country gained independence from the British Empire in 1978.
The day is celebrated as a public holiday, and various events and activities are held throughout the country. A military parade is held in the capital city of Roseau, while flags are flown at half-mast as a sign of respect for those who fought for the country’s independence.
The Prime Minister delivers a speech to the nation, highlighting the achievements of the past year and outlining the government’s plans for the future. Other events, including cultural performances, firework displays and street parties, are also organised.
Dominica is a small island nation with a population of just over 71,000 people. However, despite its size, the country is known to have a rich history and culture. Dominica is referred as the “Nature Isle of the Caribbean” because of its unspoiled natural beauty and is a popular tourist destination.
The country has a diverse economy, with industries such as agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and information technology. Dominica is also a Commonwealth Nation, a member of the United Nations, and the Organization of American States. The Commonwealth of Dominica is a young nation but one with a bright future.
On the 44th Independence Day, many Dominica took to social media to extend their wishes. One of them wrote, “Happy Independence Day to the ‘Nature Island of the Caribbean’ Dominica.” While another one stated, “Hearty Congratulations to the Government of Commonwealth of Dominica and the Citizens on its 44th Independence Day!”
The third one said, “Wishing the Commonwealth of Dominica a very Happy Independence Day. May this year bring prosperity and growth to the land.”
