CPL 2024: Historic partnership by Kyle Mayers and Evin Lewis sets new record

A power-hitting showdown was displayed by Kyle Mayers and Evin Lewis pulling off a record-breaking partnership of 199 runs during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024.

The pair, wearing St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ jersey on them, set a new CPL record of 199 runs for the second wicket against the Saint Lucia Kings, after Gayle and Walton had set the previous record of 162 runs in 2019.

Evin Lewis was the hero of the match, scoring the first CPL 2024 century for his team. Lewis’s innings was aggressive right from the start, where he got a half-century off 24 balls. This was proven when, for the 19th over, there was a rain interruption, but Lewis continued without losing concentration and made his massive three-figure score in the final over of the innings.

This record-breaking partnership was achieved with Kyle Mayers making 92 runs from 62 balls. His innings was nothing less with him smashing six fours and seven sixers. Alongside, Mayers and Lewis ensured the Patriots reached a decent score of 201/6 in their twenty overs.

This was one of the landmark moments in the CPL season because of the cooperation between the two talents as well as the synchronization between them.

But something special was brewing up in the camp of Saint Lucia Kings and they were not to be outdone. Nevertheless, the Kings defeated the odds after they had lost four wickets for the addition of only 24 runs in the fourth over.

In the batting department, Tim Seifert played a blinder by scoring 64 off 27 balls and Bhanuka Rajapaksa was unbeaten at 68 off 35 balls. The two stars posted a well-fisted partnership of 103 runs for the fifth wicket which gave the Kings a right victory by five wickets and 16 balls to spare.

This match not only proved how attractive T20 cricket is, but also the availability, passion and entertainment that CPL offers to the public. This partnership between Lewis and Mayers will be one going into the record books, with the Kings’ team-bond effort to hunt down the target.
