Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi consolidates relations with Jamaica
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Jamaica with the aim of establishing a stronger partnership with the Caribbean nation to develop collective strategies and cooperate in multiple ways.

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Jamaica with the aim of establishing a stronger partnership with the Caribbean nation to develop collective strategies and cooperate in multiple ways. The two nations are also looking to increase cultural exchange between each other to ensure that public opinion aligns with the vision of both governments.
Wang Yi is a high-ranking member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and had a fruitful meeting with the Jamaican Prime Minister, Andrew Holness in Kingston.
China has been a significant supporter of Jamaica, especially in terms of improving the standard of living of citizens and promoting economic development.
Jamaica has nailed its mast to the One-China Policy and has focused on building a strategic relationship with the Chinese apparatus. China has been appreciative of this stance taken by Jamaica and has been pleased with the friendly policies that the Caribbean nation enforces in this partnership.
Jamaica has also benefited from the Belt and Road Initiative and looks to China for support in achieving the resilience levels that the small island nation is aiming for.
Jamaica is also seen as a means through which China can build better relations with other nations in the Caribbean, thus expanding its footprint in this vital region.
Wang highlighted the fact that Jamaica was one of the first Caribbean nations to establish diplomatic relations with China and the first to set up a strategic partnership with the nation, which is now bearing fruit.
He went on to add that China conforms to the tenants of multilateralism and peaceful development for all, while calling for defusing tenuous situations around the world. He also stated that China has one of the best records in terms of maintaining peace and security out of all the major nations of the world.
Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kamina Johnson, spoke glowingly about the partnership that her nation shares with China, appreciating the role it has played in introducing Jamaica to global initiatives that have benefitted Jamaica greatly.
