Belize to open land borders on new years’ eve
The Caribbean island of Belize will be reopening its land borders on new years’ eve (January 1, 2022) as the Cabinet gives approval. The government added that further travel requirements in this relation would be disseminated soon.

Belmopan: The Caribbean island of Belize will be reopening its land borders on new years’ eve (January 1, 2022) as the Cabinet gives approval. The government added that further travel requirements in this relation would be disseminated soon.
The island had to close its borders in the month of April 2020, amid the ongoing contagious COVID-19 pandemic.
Surely this decision of the Belizean government would attract more international travellers and tourists across the globe to come and enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the island while boosting its tourism sector.
Meanwhile, ahead of the festive and holiday season, the Cabinet urged the unvaccinated general public to get their jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible and strictly abide by the health protocols established by the government.
Booster shots are also being administered on the island to the eligible population.
Vaccination rate of Belize island:
As per the statistics, so far, there are a total of 229,107 individuals who have received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines. These figures count for 57.6 percent of the islands’ total population.
On the other hand, a total of 196,741 individuals have received their second jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine and are now fully inoculated against the deadliest virus, which counts for around 49.5 percent of islands’ total population.
In addition, the new coronavirus variant ‘Omicorn’ arrived in Latin America and the Caribbean region, PAHO confirmed.
Recently, the University of Belize issued a statement that only fully vaccinated students would be allowed to attend the face-to-face classes.
