Barbadians to experience hike in food bills

Officials of the Barbados government has announced that Queen Elizabeth II would be removed as the head of the state. At the end of this year, Barbados would become Republic as promised.

Last year the Barbados Governor-General Dame Sandra Mason announced that till the 55th anniversary of Barbados independence. The island would become a republic in November 2021. Mason said that it was time for the island of Barbados to left its colonial past behind.

Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley said that the island would appoint a non-executive president. According to the statement, the new plans have been expected to be executed on the 55th anniversary of Barbados Independence that is on November 30.

While addressing the day of National Significance on July 26 PM, Mia Amor Mottley said that on November 30 this year, their great nation, which they love, should become the Parliamentary Republic. Further amendments would be made to help that change to a new president to be sworn in on November 30. After, a new constitution would get passed.

PM Mottley said that for the course of the next four months, they would start and complete the discussion to settle among themselves what has been that trajectory? What is the spirit with which they want to embrace both the Republic and the new constitution? Who are they? What do they stand for? And that conversation would be led by the Republic Transition Advisory Committee along with other members of civil society and the government because there might be a Charter of Barbados that has been established and brought to their Parliament before November 30 such that we enter the morning of the November 30 committed to the Charter of Barbados that reflects the essence of who Barbadians are and what they stand for.
