Barbados records 218 new COVID cases, one dies

Barbados: Barbados reported a total of 218 new cases of the COVID-19 mutant, comprising 92 males and 126 females. So far, the island has reported a total of 9,010 confirmed cases of the deadliest mutant, according to the health ministry’s report till 2 October 2021. 

As per to the report, there are 1,021 individuals who are in isolation till 2 October 2021, while one individual lost life to the COVID-19 mutant. The individual who died was a 52-year-old woman on Saturday. She had comorbidities and was also unvaccinated.

With these additional deaths, the toll of people who scummed to contagious COVID-19 outbreak has risen to 79. 

Since the pandemic started in the island country, that is – in March 2020, Barbados has reported a total of 9,010 cases (4,404 males and 4,606 females). The public health laboratory has performed 342,652 tests.

Barbados COVID-19 situation reports further states that so far, a total of 138,060 individuals have received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, while a total of 107,056 individuals that is 39.5 per cent of the population, has received their second shot of the vaccine and are now fully vaccinated against the deadly virus. 

Out of the 218 new cases registered, 51 out of them are under 18 years, and 167 individuals are 18 years older or above.

Prime Minister – Mia Amor Mottley, along with the health ministry, is urging the citizens to abide by the COVID-19 protocols/measures such as – wearing masks, sanitizing frequently and maintaining a social distance.

 She also urged the Barbadians to take their jabs of the vaccine as soon as possible so as to decrease the chances of transmission and assist the nation in achieving its target of herd immunity.
