Antigua and Barbuda to get another 16,800 COVID-19 vaccines from COVAX

Antigua and Barbuda: The country would secure another batch of 16,800 doses of the AstraZeneca Covishield vaccines from the COVAX facility on June 9, 2021. Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment stated that the doses would be delivered to Antigua and Barbuda under the COVAX facility of GAVI/PAHO.”
Minister of Health, Molwyn Joseph and Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Alfred Athill Will collect the batch of vaccines at VC Bird International Airport of Antigua and Barbuda on the behalf of the government.
Minister in his statement said that the public is being encouraged to actively participate in the COVID-19 vaccination drive initiated by the government to achieve herd immunity. He added that majority of public is being protected from becoming severely ill due to COVID-19, people must take the jab on priority.
Minister urges people to take the vaccine as soon as possible to achieve herd immunity which will clear the path for normalcy in the country and open doors for economic enhancement, social and cultural events to boom the tourism of the country.
According to government data, a total of 34,368 first doses has been administered by the people of Antigua and Barbuda, while over 22,896 doses have been administered. Currently, there are four vaccination centres: Perry Bay Multipurpose Cultural and Exhibition Centre, Villa Polyclinic, Precision Centre in Painters and Glanvilles Polyclinic.
The public vaccination drive will continue on Monday to Friday from morning 9 AM to 5 PM. People will have pre-register to receive the vaccine from any of the above-mentioned sites. They will have to log in to www.vaccineantiguabarbuda.com and select the vaccine registration tab.
The government also reminded people who have taken their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to keep their vaccination card secure, because they will have to furnish the card before receiving the second dose of the Astra-Zeneca vaccine.
