Trinidad and Tobago receives 40,000 doses of vaccine from India

On Tuesday, 13 April 2021, 40,000 doses of Oxford Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidad and Tobago: On Tuesday, 13 April 2021, 40,000 doses of Oxford Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Trinidad and Tobago.

PNM stated, “This was a result of the gracious response from the Honourable Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, on 23 February 2021. This further strengthens the longstanding relationship between the regime and the people of both countries.”

Furthermore, PNM added, Senator the Hon Dr Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, officially received the donation from his Excellency Arun Kumar Sahu, High Commissioner of the Republic of India, at the Piarco International Airport. The Hon. Terrance Deyalsingh, Minister of Health, was present to witness the ceremonial handover of the vaccines.

These World Health Organisation(WHO) approved vaccines will be transferred to the Ministry of Health and added to the current stock of COVID-19 vaccines, which are being used to inoculate the population.

The regime of Trinidad and Tobago will continue its efforts to safeguard the health of the population through the application of public health measures, including the provision of approved COVID-19 vaccines that are both safe and effective.

Trinidad and Tobago have earlier received vaccines in the month of March. UNC Leader also acknowledged the gracious gift of India to the nation.

Trinidad and Tobago also received 33,600 shots of COVID-19 vaccines via the COVAX Facility, a global effort between the -Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi, -the Vaccine Alliance Gavi, UNICEF, the -Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the -World Health Organization (WHO).

Moreover, India and Trinidad and Tobago have a prominent relationship. As half of the population of T&T is Indians and people of T&T celebrate all the festivals and cultures from India.
