The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew, met the first batch of students of the island nation enrolled at Southern University and A&M College – Baton Rouge, LA. He extended best wishes to those students for their future and motivated them to become a beacon of hope for the betterment of the nation and the world.
PM Terrance Drew encouraged those students to continue to work hard, strive for excellence and be great ambassadors for the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. The Prime Minister also reiterated their gratitude to the Southern University for the most meaningful collaboration.
While expressing gratitude, PM Drew asserted that this partnership with Southern University will play a huge role in fostering their collaboration to ensure that both the nationals of the Federation and the university continue to benefit from this relationship.
“Last evening, I had the opportunity to meet our first batch of students who are enrolled at Southern University and A&M College – Baton Rouge, LA,” noted PM Terrance Drew.
Moreover, Prime Minister Terrance Drew also attended a state dinner with the students studying at Southern University. This event was attended by several other notable figures as well, including, Chairman Myron Lawson, other SU Board Members, President Dennis Shields, chancellors, vice chancellors, vice presidents, deans, administrators, faculty, staff, Miss Southern, Student Government Association President and many more.
Notably, this visit by the Prime Minister to the University is a step undertaken by them to strengthen their ties with international institutions that can bring strategic value to St. Kitts and Nevis. He stated this crucial collaboration would play a huge role in providing affordable educational opportunities to the citizens of the nation.
During his visit, the Prime Minister held significant discussions on several important topics including horticulture, livestock management, agricultural sustainability, crop enhancement, medicinal plant research and many more.
PM Drew stated that this visit by him is a step towards advancing agriculture sector to greater heights. Recently, the University has also announced to grant five new undergraduate scholarships in Agriculture for the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis.
This initiative undertaken by the Southern University would also play a significant role in allowing people to gain expertise in agriculture sector.
“Yesterday, we had the honor of hosting Dr. Terrence Drew, Prime minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, and his family. They toured the campus, met with the leadership, our system president and chancellors — to discuss expanding global partnerships, and enjoyed a special luncheon and dinner. We’re excited for the opportunities ahead,” mentioned Southern University.
