PM Minnis receives courtesy call from Chargé d’ Affaires Pitts

Bahamas: Prime Minister of Bahamas, Dr. Hubert Minnis, experienced a courtesy call Chargé d’ Affaires Mrs. Usha E. Pitts.

Today, Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis received a courtesy call from the newly appointed United States Chargé d’Affaires, Mrs. Usha E. Pitts, at the Cabinet Office.

Discussions covered matters of mutual interest and reinforced the Bahamas and US governments’ commitment to strengthening cooperation.

The Prime Minister welcomed Chargé d’ Affaires Pitts to The Bahamas and conveyed congratulations to the newly elected Biden-Harris administration.

At the US Embassy meeting were Mr. Garrett Wilkerson, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission and Director of International Narcotics & Law Enforcement Affairs; and Mr. Daniel Villanueva, Political-Economic-Commercial Chief.

Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s office, Mr. David Davis; and Mrs. Viana Gardiner, COO, Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit, also attended the meeting.

Together they talked about the many collaboration areas our countries share, including disaster preparedness, COVID-19 response, and combatting climate change.

They also exchanged gifts! Chargé Pitts received a beautiful copy of “Visions of The Bahamas: Islands of Beauty and Heritage.” And she was pleased to offer Prime Minister Minnis a copy of “Infinite Wonder,” which features breathtaking images of The Bahamas taken from the International Space Station by astronaut Scott Kelly.

Head of the State stated, “We are looking forward to working with the government and people of The Bahamas to forge a bright future for our nations.”

All aspects of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan will be tested before going live to ensure the vaccine’s secure and efficient distribution to those who choose to take it, said Dr. Merceline Dahl-Regis, chairperson of the National COVID-19 Vaccine Consultative Committee (NCVCC).

The plan to distribute COVID-19 vaccines is being finalized in preparation for the arrival of vaccines in-country.

The Bahamas was notified earlier this week that it could receive 100,000 doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine starting the second half of February through the COVAX Facility.
