Basseterre: St Kitts & Nevis Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris promises a better 2022 than the previous year to the general public, highlighting that the Team Unity Government is making every effort for this, hoping that this year will bring a fresh start for many persons.
The prime minister was speaking during morning worship on Sunday, January 16, 2022. He asserted, “Our tomorrow, our new year, must be better than our 2021, as we serve a God that is abundantly able to make it better. So, those of you due to the shutdowns & the lockdowns were not able to enjoy a full year’s work, 2022, with God’s grace, can be better for you and for your family”.
Following his above statement, he outlined 2022 will be a good one for those who are looking forward to getting a home, as the government has invested $10 million-plus to support the National Housing Corporation (NHC). With this, he added, around 15 most-needed families will be receiving their new homes by the end of January.
He further appreciated the efforts of the Government of Venezuela, noting that it is aiding the Team Unity Administration in building these homes.
St Kitts and Nevis government is also looking forward to seeking haemodialysis treatment and cancer care locally. In relation to the announcement, PM Harris highlighted, “If we can avoid getting ill, better for us. If we all can decrease our sugar intake, reduce our salt intake, and try not to consume too much alcohol, the better it will be for our health, and so we need to bring that particular discipline”.
Furthermore emphasizes the significance of vaccination; PM Harris noted that if the teachers are inoculated, only then the students will be shielded and get a safer environment to study.
“We need to remind people so that our children can go to school without interruption again, which will only happen if our teachers are vaccinated if they are wearing their masks if they are sanitizing so that the environment could be a good one,” he added.
Apart from this, he highlighted that he is well aware of the situation of unemployment in St Kitts and Nevis, following which his administration will extend a $1,000 monthly payment to the unemployed ones for a very long period.
“And so, as we all think about the future, I want us to be positive and to do many positive things,” the prime minister emphasized.
