Only 6 active COVID-19 cases in Caribbean island of Dominica
National Epidemiologist of Dominica, Dr Shalauddin Ahmed stated, there are six active cases in the Dominica and a total of 158 recoveries from exogenous coronavirus.

Dominica: Health and Wellness have been the priority of the government of Dominica. The opening of several Health and Wellness centres was a milestone for the nation. On 1st April 2021, the administration organised the Ministry of Health Press Briefing.
Minister of Health- Wellness & New Health Investment, Dr Irving McIntyre, National Epidemiologist of Dominica, Dr Shalauddin Ahmed and Deputy of Chief Officer Davidson Valerie, Coordinator for Health Promotion Unit, Mignon Rolle- Shillingford and other members were present in the Ministry of Health Press Briefing.
National Epidemiologist of Dominica, Dr Shalauddin Ahmed stated, there are six active cases in the Dominica and a total of 158 recoveries from exogenous coronavirus.
Furthermore, he added, Dominica has not encountered any death related to lethal Coronavirus, all our active cases are currently asymptomatic, covid-19 transmission remains sporadic. The nation has immunized 17,674 individuals in the respective vaccination drive. The immunization drive has vaccinated 38% of Dominica’s target population.
Additionally, he mentioned, there are no severe side-effects observed by the people after vaccination in Dominica. He appreciated the service of the Vaccine management team, including primary health care, central health store and respective labs.
He also acknowledged the participation of Dominica’s people who have taken the antidote and made it possible to cover the vaccination. He urged the people who have still not taken the jab to take it.
The target population of Dominica under the vaccination program is 70%, which means only 32% population left for vaccination from covid-19 in Dominica. Coordinator for Health Promotion Unit, Mignon Rolle- Shillingford, explained the 70% target population’s objective is to achieve herd immunity.
The Vaccination Rollout strategy includes a large banner of vaccination drive, awareness through radio, tv, internet and another mode of communication which has worked systematically.
She stated that vaccination is an effective way to fight against the COVID-19 battle; the COVID-19 vaccine is safe and efficient and without side effects.
