Dominica’s Olympic Gold medallist, Thea Lafond claimed Caribbean Breakthrough Award 2024 at the first-ever CANOC Sports Awards which was held in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands on Saturday, 19th October, 2024.
The inaugural CANOC award ceremony was conducted with a vision to acknowledge the finest athletes, sports leaders and teams who have celebrated their accomplishments on an international platform.
The recognition of being the Caribbean Breakthrough claimed by Thea Lafond shed light on her incredible talent and impact on the Caribbean sports scene. It is a testament to her unwavering determination that Thea Lafond has been recognized with this prestigious award.
The Caribbean Breakthrough Award honours those athletes who have earned their first medals in continental or international multi-sport competition. And, winning the Olympic Gold medal in Triple Jump at the Paris Olympics 2024, she not only registered history but also became the first athlete to bring the Olympic medal for the Nature Isle.
