The essential medical equipment and other supplies related to medical urgency have been donated to Jamaica by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This donation had been cost 32 million US Dollars which would help Jamaica to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The donation has been given by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. This donation included 25,000 surgical sterile gowns, 23 ventilators, 125,000 non-sterile surgical gowns, 188,000 medical masks,1.6 million surgical masks, 9,500 nitrile gloves.
Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Jamaica had handed over this donation to the Ministry of Health and Wellness. This donation was handed over during the ceremony virtually held at the NewKingston offices of the Ministry.
The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia, while the virtual ceremony, said that this handing over of donations is the example that shows the good side of the COVID-19 pandemic that how the countries have been helping and co-operating each other in this time of the pandemic, and it has become a remarkable example.
Ambassador highlighted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, Saudi Arabia has been playing an active role at the international level. According to him, his nation had given global assistance of 500 million US dollars to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ambassador Alharbi also noted that his government had been making every possible effort to strengthen the diplomatic relations and friendship with a country like Jamaica.
While receiving the donations, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, said that it shows the continuous partnership between Jamaica and Saudi Arabia since diplomatic relations were established from 1976.
Minister, Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn said that their bilateral cooperation over the years had been including grants and concessional loans for projects, scholarships, imports and exports. They have been expanding that cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, supporting Jamaica’s COVID-19 response by giving this donation.
Minister Cuthbert-Flynn said the government and the people of Jamaica have been grateful to the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for being a helping hand in the period of the pandemic.
