Indian High Commissioner to Antigua hosts reception for India’s U19 champs

Antigua and Barbuda: India’s Under-19 team won the World Cup for the fifth time on February 6, 2022. After this incredible win, Dr KJ Srinivasa, the Indian High Commissioner to Antigua and Barbuda, arranged a reception for the “Men in Blue”.

Two veteran cricket players from West Indies, Curtly Ambrose and Sir Richie Richardson, graced the occasion. The event was also attended by the Under-19 selectors – Prathik Patel and Ranadeb Bose and Indian cricket legend VVS Laxman.

“The event has brought various veteran players together to congratulate the young team for such inspirational win,” Srinivas mentioned, adding, “It was a great platform for the interaction with legendary players”.

Srinivas further exclaimed that the future of Indian cricket is in safe hands. He said that the young players played extraordinarily in the tournament, and the team showed a positive approach and mature thinking.

The Indian high commission added, “The team played really well. The young squad remained unbeatable throughout the tournament. The team displayed mature thinking, positive approach as well as came back with adversity, despite half of the team was dealing with COVID-19.”

“Team India’s playing proved that the future of the Indian cricket is in safe and good hands,” Srinivas concluded.

The final of the Under-19 World Cup was played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda. England batted first and made a total of 189 runs; in reply, the Indian team chased down the remaining 14 balls and four wickets in hands.
