Dominica: As we all know Caribbean region is in desperate need of COVID-19 vaccines in fight against lethal coronavirus cases. On the other hand, Dominica is just 4 cases away from the eradication of COVID-19 from the nation.
Earlier, In Dominica, from 3 January 2020 to 4:34 pm CEST, 4 April 2021, there have been 165 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 0 deaths, recorded to WHO. As of 25 March 2021, more than 17,000 vaccine doses have been administered, which is more than half of the target population in Dominica.
How is Dominica so close to defeat COVID-19?
Dominica always prioritized the health system over other factors. It utilized its diplomatic relations with India and China to procure enough number of vaccines.
The Commonwealth of Dominica obtained 20,000 jabs of Sinopharm vaccines from the People’s Republic of China.
Dominica has also secured 70,000 Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccines from India.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit once stated that “Dominica has managed to control the spread of the coronavirus pandemic on shores; and today, Dominica stands tall and proud that its tiny 267 square mile island because immunization drive well on track to prevent up to 70 percent of its population by the end of this summer.”
Proper Vaccination Drive helped Dominica to stop the spread of COVID-19 cases
National Epidemiologist of Dominica- Dr Shalauddin Ahmed acknowledged the service of the Vaccine management organization, including primary healthcare, central health-store and respective labs, for conducting their duties efficiently.
The vaccination drive was on the shores in Dominica. People of the nation were inspired by the leaders like PM and his wife and President of Dominica to being the first person to take the vaccine.

The awareness of vaccination by different means of modes made people encouraged to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
Role of citizens in victory over COVID-19
In other Caribbean islands, people were in a dilemma about taking the vaccine; hence it was difficult for the front liners to convenience them for taking antidotes.

In St Lucia, people are not taking vaccine over the cultural issues. But Dominica never encountered such issues. People were supportive and aware enough to take vaccines.
