Dominica confirms 50 new COVID cases

The Ministry of Health released the COVID-19 update report of December 20, 2021. A total of 50 fresh infections have been recorded in Dominica on Monday, taking the toll of active cases to 303.

Roseau, Dominica: The Ministry of Health released the COVID-19 update report of December 20, 2021. A total of 50 fresh infections have been recorded in Dominica on Monday, taking the toll of active cases to 303.

Out of these new cases reported, a total of 46 individuals tested positive by Rapid Antigen testing, while four tested positive by RT-PCR testing.

As per the data in the health ministry’s report, there are a total of 188 patients who have been recovered and discharged from the hospital facilities. With this the total toll of recovered individuals rises to 6173.

Since the pandemic started on the island, a total of 44 individuals have lost their lives to the deadliest mutant.

The data issued in the report of the health ministry shows that, to date, in total, 121399 COVID-19 tests have been conducted by the healthcare facilities, out of which 30903 conducted are the RT-PCR test and 90496 tests conducted are Rapid Antigen Test.

While, since the COVID-19 pandemic emerged on the island, it has recorded a total of 6,520 confirmed cases of the virus.

The report by the health ministry further notes that till December 20, 2021, a total of 29426 individuals have been vaccinated by receiving atleast their first dose of the WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccine.

In comparison, there are a total of 27618 individuals who have received their required number of the COVID-19 vaccine jabs and are now fully inoculated against the deadly virus.

The COVID-19 update report was shared by Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit via his Facebook post.

The ministry of health is continuously urging the Dominicans to get themselves immunised as soon as possible in order to ensure their safety and of their loved ones.

The government has not mandated the vaccination stating the reason that it is the responsibility of individuals to get vaccinated and protect themselves.
