DLP has something to say about current Barbados Govt!

Barbados: Democratic Labour Party,Barbados has posted an article which declares some annotation about Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley and the new committee. The Author of this article is Dr. Derek Alleyne. 

Announcement of New Committee

On Friday, he stated that the Prime Minister announced that Liz Thompson, the United Nations representative, would be brought home to be part of a new health team, a committee headed by a friend.

It would include a consultant – this time, Hartley Henry’s family is now ending an assignment in Dominica. According to him, At every turn, public interests have given way to party interests. Public Relations within the interests of the party has become the dominating theme of MAM.

Hence this new committee’s role is to ensure that no matter the facts, or the reality, a message that makes the Government look good is the objective.

It is not illogical to ask why a new committee?

According to Derek Alleyne, If there is an answer, then the next question must be, Why this new team? Some analysts have raised questions about the absenteeism of Government Information Service (GIS) absence at the forefront of distributing information around the Government’s programs. But they are professionals, not political hacks.

It is standard information that the Government has on its payroll a political evangelist with a template that spins every news item, Charles Jong of Dominica repute.

Derek Alleyne declares that there is also an oversized cabinet of about 26 and Senator Lucille Moe, a marketing specialist now in some form of hibernation.

This line of argument provides sound reasoning about the propensity of this Government to utilize public money to build positive messages and propagate them to the advantage of the ruling party with no consideration for the effect that the propaganda can have on public response or the public purse.

Some Statements about Prime Minister of Barbados

There is another more sinister message that flows from this policy. It is about the overpowering nature of an autocratic leader; a despot. It is not a secret that the “Prime Minister of Barbados is an egocentric micro-manager,” added Derek Alleyne.

The presence of other cabinet members at press conferences often reflects this characteristic in the Prime Minister, as seldom do others get the attention at the meeting that the portfolio should demand.

According to Derek Alleyne, She controls and must be the center of everything. Notice that the write-ups after the sessions with the media and the headlines and bylines always feature MAM.

Many managers or leaders suffer from “micromanagementitis” set up committees as a cure for the tendency. Still, they often end up interfering with the said committee’s work because success comes only through them.

At every turn of this administration’s sojourn, the Prime Minister and not the Minister of Health, Culture, Housing, or Education has installed a committee, invited a consultant, and called a press conference. It is even rumored that she has the last say in the composition of every Board.

Such has been the hand of the Prime Minister spread across the entire Government that Barbadians are increasingly asking about the Cabinet’s value.

Derek Alleyne stated, Pray to tell me does MAM, or any minister, conducts the testing? Do they carry out the functions of surveillance? Do they enforce the screening? Do they transport visitors to the holding sites? The solution to all the questions is NO!

The prime minister is trying to control the narrative, and it is beginning to get beyond her. Forming a committee that she can control is a natural step.

But of all the members of a bloated, barely functioning cabinet, all the $21 million in consultants that she has at her fingertips, the only person she could find for this job was the political bombast, Liz Thompson.
