Dominica: Charles Savarin, President of Dominica, received his second Oxford Astra Zeneca dose on 9th April 2021. Charles Savarin was the first Dominican to take the first dose of vaccines arrived from India in the month of February.
President Savarin and his wife took their first dose of vaccine at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital. President Savarin stated that while Dominica has managed the lethal coronavirus pandemic well so far, at the same time, citizens must do what is required to protect themselves.
Dominican President is fully immunized with the respective two jabs required for the vaccination procedure. He stated, “I had no side-effects from the first shot, and I do not expect that I will have any side-effects from the second jab too. The jab itself is painless. Some people have a specific reaction to needles or injections, but this is an essential, life-saving situation; it is an universal situation, and it is a pandemic.
Furthermore, he added, We have done very well, But things can change, and therefore we have to keep doing the things that need to be done.
Moreover, President Savarin added that if Dominica is to stimulate the activity, the country must achieve herd immunity. He continued, Tourism is an essential aspect of our economic life. We anticipate that the travel agencies, the airlines, and the cruise industry will require persons accessing their services to be vaccinated.
“We who are offering the service here, must ourselves, be able to give them the guarantee that they are coming into a situation where we have already achieved herd immunity, that is to say in excess of 70 to 80 percent of the population called as the target population,” he stated.
President Savarin added that Dominica is fortunate to have received these vaccines; while remembering that the nation has not yet achieved its mark for herd immunity, everyone must make their civic duty to come forward and get vaccinated.
