The importance of volunteerism was highlighted by leading telecommunications provider Flow when the company celebrated its annual Mission Week recently with a series of events which support the theme “Environment, Learning, Access and Disaster Relief”.
Country Manager of Flow Barbados, Jenson Sylvester said that Flow is connecting Barbadian communities for over a century, and the core of the annual Mission Week is to give back to the communities which they serve.
As part of the celebrations, employees took part in a tree-planting drive with the Walkers Institute for Regenerative Research, Education and Design as work continues towards the restoration of the ecological health of the Walkers Quarry of St Andrew.
The partnership of the company with WIRRED came after a US$100,000 grant from the Cable & Wireless Charitable Foundation (CWCF) for helping the local non-profit with education outreach while achieving the goal of planting 285,000 trees.
Sylvester added that the foundation was established in 2017 by Cable & Wireless Communications. Since then, they are partnering with organisations across the region for helping with recovery and sustainability programmes.
Some employees also donated tablets to deserving primary school children, and Flow Business presented ten hand sanitiser dispensers to Welches Primary School.
