Barbados: A viral video displaying dumping by the MTW at Bath, St. John, highlights an environmental failure stated by The Democratic Labour Party (DLP).
The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) influences to protect the environment and safeguard surroundings.
The viral video showing dumping by the MTW at Bath, St. John highlights an environmental failure that needs to be addressed. The government has used the site to dump trees, foliage, and sargassum seaweed. However, in recent times a lack of supervision and proper management has resulted in other bulk waste being dumped there.
Besides, there have been reports of leaving in areas close to the springs as well. This dumping of bulk waste is unsightly and exposes the environment to pollutants.
The Democratic Labour Party supports the calls to stop the disposal at the site being made by farmers at Bath, St. John, and the Rastafarian community members.
We strongly encourage the MTW and the Ministry of the Environment to assemble a team to clean up the area and remove bulk waste, threatening the pristine spring water in this area.
The area needs to be secured appropriately and supervised to prevent the dumping of harmful materials. We need to adopt environmentally sustainable practices such as shredding the trees and foliage to make mulch and other useful products and composting to add nutrients to our soils.
These can be revenue earners for a cash-strapped government. Bath is a beautiful, natural environment. Many people use spring water for bathing and relaxation. Every effort should be taken to protect our environment and pass on this natural beauty to future generations. This article is presented by Andre Worrell, DLP Spokesperson on Agriculture and the Environment.
Cleanliness is significant, especially in the time of COVID-19, where the world is fighting a global pandemic; we don’t need another.
The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) is a renowned political party in Barbados. It is currently headed by Ms. Verla Depeiza.
