Barbados: Around 311 new cases of COVID-19 reported in 24hrs

Bridgetown, Barbados: Barbados reported a total of 311 new cases of the COVID-19 mutant, comprising 156 males and 155 females. So far, the island has reported a total of 11,785 confirmed cases of the deadliest mutant, according to the health ministry’s report till October 12 2021.

As per the report, there are 541 individuals who are in isolation facilities, and 2,273 people have isolated themselves at their homes. Two additional deaths have been recorded.

Among the deaths, there was a 69-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman who died at the Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility. With these additional deaths, the toll of people who scummed to contagious COVID-19 outbreak has risen to 103.

Since the pandemic started in the island country, that is – in March 2020, Barbados has reported a total of 11,785 cases (5,706 males and 6,079 females). The public health laboratory has performed 347,719 tests.

Barbados COVID-19 situation reports further state that so far, a total of 143,151 individuals have received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, while a total of 113,850 individuals that is 42 per cent of the population, has received their second shot of the vaccine and are now fully vaccinated against the deadly virus.

Out of the 311 new cases registered, 69 out of them are under 18 years, and 242 individuals are 18 years older or above.

Prime Minister – Mia Amor Mottley, along with the health ministry, is urging the citizens to abide by the COVID-19 protocols/measures such as – wearing masks, sanitizing frequently and maintaining a social distance.

She also urged the Barbadians to take their jabs of the vaccine as soon as possible so as to decrease the chances of transmission and assist the nation in achieving its target of herd immunity.
