Antigua and Barbuda receive 1000 jabs of Sputnik V from Russia

Antigua and Barbuda:Â On April 10, 2021 Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Hon. Gaston Browne received the first shipment of 1000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccines from Russia at the V.C. Bird International Airport.
Earlier the Russian vaccine against coronavirus was approved by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment of Antigua and Barbuda under the emergency use authorization procedure.
Previously Hon. Gaston Browne disclosed that the subsequent 1000 doses of the Sputnik V are expected to arrive shortly.

On March 26, 2021, The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF, Russia’s sovereign wealth fund) announced that the Ministry had confirmed the Russian Sputnik V vaccine versus coronavirus of Health & Wellness the Environment of Antigua and Barbuda.
On the other hand, Antigua and Barbuda’s administration is combat-ready to roll out Phase- 2 of the Public -Vaccination Program following the arrival of 24,000 shots of coronavirus vaccines in Antigua and Barbuda earlier today. These coronavirus Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines were secured through the COVAX facility.
The Honourable Gaston Browne, Health Minister, Sir Molwyn Joseph and Foreign Affairs Minister, the honourable E. P Chet Greene, were there at the brief ceremony at the- V. C Bird International Airport.
The public vaccination programme will begin on Tuesday, 13th April 2021, starting at 9:00 am.
The action of the plan is to have 14,000 doses separated from this batch to replenish vaccines utilized under Phase 1 of the national COVID-19 vaccination programme.
This will guarantee that all 27,000 jabs are in place for the second jabs in May. The remaining 10,000 doses will be used for the first shots under Phase 2 of the public vaccination-programme.
The four (4) vaccination sites under Phase-2 are the Villa Polyclinic, the Glanvilles Polyclinic, the Multipurpose Culture & Exhibition Center and the Precision Center in Paynters.
The public vaccination sites will operate on Mondays through to Fridays from 9:00 am to3:30pm.
Antigua and Barbuda’s public is encouraged to actively participate in Phase-2 of the COVID-19 vaccination programme to induce herd immunity, whereby the majority of the target population is protected from becoming seriously ill from COVID-19.
