The government of Cuba has given a lifetime opportunity to the youth of Belize by providing scholarships to around 14 students for their further studies on the island of Cuba. The Government of Belize Press Office provided the information. The ceremony was held at the House of Culture for the official presentation of the scholarship awards on Thursday.
To disseminate the scholarships awards to the recipients, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology (MoECST), in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Belize and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration, conducted a ceremony.
Belizean Minister of Education Francis Fonseca, congratulating and motivating the students, asserted, “Each and every one of you is an ambassador of Belize when you’re out there”, adding that whatever they all will be doing in Cuba reflects them, their family and the people of Belize.
“It’s a beautiful opportunity. It is an honour to receive this scholarship. Many, many people try, among which you are the chosen ones this year. So, take full advantage of this opportunity. Make the most of it. Make yourself proud, make your families proud, and make your country proud”, the minister further added.
Meanwhile, Cuban Ambassador María Caridad Balaguer Labrada highlighted that the island prioritises human resource training as that are the ones building a foundation of development.
The Ambassador furthermore underscored the mission of the Cuban government since the beginning of the Cuban revolution, which is to provide free education and continuous development of the educational institutions, adding, “I would like to inform you all that in Cuba you will have a lot of opportunities to know friendly people who will receive all of you with love and friendship”.
“You will also have the opportunity to know students from our region and other continents as a sign of the solidarity that must prevail among all our nations for the benefit of our people,” she then added.
Apart from this, the Chief Executive Officer Dian Maheia of MoECST appreciated the efforts of the Cuban government in giving away scholarships to the students of the Caribbean region.
