Trinidad and Tobago: Legendary Powerboat Racer Ken Charles honoured in commemoration of the 2023 great race

According to the update shared by the group of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr Ken Charles, 78, the driver of perennial Trinidad and Tobago Great Race winner Solo is the son of the founder of the Solo legacy, Joseph Charles and is the owner/managing director of Solo Beverages Ltd.

Apart from taking Mr Solo’s soft drinks to a new level, Ken has also made an impressionable mark on the powerboat racing arena, where he has piloted the legendary ‘Mr Solo Too’ to victory in 18 Great Race competitions, making Solo not only the sole competitor in the history of the race to achieve this hat trick win, according to the update.

Furthermore, officially it was stated that in 1969, Ken Charles took the passion he had for the sea to a whole new level when he commissioned Brian Bowen to build his boat, Mr Solo, thus creating one of the most enduring brands in Power Boat Racing.

In 1970, the year after the inaugural Grand Racing Event in Trinidad and Tobago was launched, Charles entered the 28-foot-long Mr Solo and won the race in a time of one hour and 28 minutes.

Thereafter, the rest was history as Mr Solo became a household name and went on to dominate Power Boat Racing in the region by winning the Trinidad and Tobago Great Race Competition 18 times.

In conclusion, it was informed that Mr Solo Power Boat Racer Ken Charles in the year 2020 made history when he earned himself a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest professional powerboat racer in the world.
