St Kitts PM Terrance Drew’s father Michael “Mic Stokes” Heyliger passes away; Grenada PM extends condolence

Father to the fourth Prime Minister of the twin-island Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew and popular DJ Sister Sensia, Michael "Mic Stokes" Heyliger, has passed.

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Cultural Icon and father to the fourth Prime Minister of the twin-island Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew and popular DJ Sister Sensia, Michael “Mic Stokes” Heyliger, has passed. This demise has sent a wave of grief and sorrow across the island country.

Heyliger was a well-known jeweller, drummer and singer. His contribution to the culture of St Kitts and Nevis is well known. In 2020, Heyliger was awarded the Medal of Honour for his contribution to music.

Many organisations and associations of St Kitts and Nevis have wished that may Mic Stokes – The Road March legend, Rest in Peace.

Along with this, some heads of the government came forward to express condolence towards the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis. The Grenada Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell also took to social media and shared an official statement.

“Prime Minister, Honourable Dickon Mitchell, with sadness, learned this morning of the death of Michael ‘Mic Stokes’ Heyliger, the father of Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, The Honourable Dr Terrance Drew,” the statement read.

He added that Mr Heyliger was a celebrated musician and songwriter in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis with renown across the Caribbean region and internationally.

Prime Minister Mitchell extended to Prime Minister Drew and his family, as well as to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, his deepest sympathy and condolences.

“I pray that our Heavenly Father will ease theanguish of your bereavement and leave you with only cherished memories,” Prime Minister Mitchell said.

“Please be assured of the support of the Government and people of Grenada. We keep you and your family, friends, and the people of St Kitts and Nevis in our prayers and hearts during this time of profound loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
