Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew took to social media to express his pleasure at meeting with Malgorzata Wasilewska, European Union (EU) to Barbados Ambassador, the Eastern Caribbean and the OECS – Organization of Eastern Caribbean States and CARICOM / CARIFORUM, during her recent visit to St Kitts and Nevis from Thursday, March 23 to Saturday, March 25.
Malgorzata Wasilewska held discussions with high-level government officials. During her visit, Ambassador Wasilewska met with Prime Minister and discussed various issues, including the EU’s ongoing support for development initiatives in St Kitts and Nevis. The EU has provided financial assistance to the country through various projects, including support for renewable energy and climate change adaptation.
In addition to her meeting with the Prime Minister, Ambassador Wasilewska also met with Junior Minister in the Ministry of Social Development, Youth Empowerment, Gender Affairs, et al., Isalean Phillip, and Permanent Secretaries from various departments, including Public Infrastructure, IT, and Social Development. These meetings provided an opportunity for the Ambassador to learn more about the country’s priorities and to explore areas where the EU could offer further support.
The EU Ambassador’s visit to St Kitts and Nevis is part of her broader engagement with the Eastern Caribbean region. In recent months, she has been actively participating in regional meetings and engaging with government officials to discuss the EU’s ongoing support for the region’s development.
One such meeting was the Regional Security Systems (RSS) Council of Ministers meeting in Grenada, which Ambassador Wasilewska and PM Dr Drew attended. The RSS is a regional security organization that works to enhance the security of the Eastern Caribbean region through collaboration and cooperation among its member states.
Ambassador Wasilewska’s visit to the federation highlights the EU’s commitment to supporting the development of the Eastern Caribbean region. Through its financial assistance and engagement with regional governments, the EU is working to promote sustainable development, strengthen democracy along with governance, and improve the lives of people in the region.
