Soap manufacturing is source of income for many locals, says PM Skerrit

Dominica: Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica, along with Parliamentary Representative Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, visited the largest manufacturer and exporters of soap.

PM Roosevelt Skerrit commented, “On Thursday, We visited the DCP Successor, the largest manufacturer, and exporters of soap. The company has made tremendous progress thus so far, notwithstanding the challenges it endured in the past.”

Furthermore, he added, “All of the soap production functions are carried-out in Dominica only and keeps many locals employed; I am pleased to call them genuine CARICOM soaps.”

Parliamentary Representative Melissa Poponne-Skerrit wrote, ” she visited the DCP factory. She was accompanied by the honorable Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and all the cabinet members.”

Additionally, “The company has been producing soaps for many decades; it is now under a new government. We toured across different areas of the factory, from the boiling of the soaps to the packaging and storage.”

A Dominican resident commented, “Manufacture, agriculture, we are leading the way. Self-sufficiency is key. Representing my island here in st Lucia. This is my daily Shower cake soap .”

Another resident said, “I saw the soaps in the supermarket in sxm, i was happy to see that they are back in business, congratulations DCP.”

Moreover, the DCP factory was once closed down due to a natural disaster, a ‘hurricane’ that reduced the production of soaps and prior exports and imports of soaps.

The soaps have been utilized by other CARICOM countries like Guyana. The economy can be upsurge by the trade of soaps.PM and other cabinet members visited the manufacturing factory.

Members observed all the fundamental steps of Soapmaking, from boiling of chemicals to the major step known as saponification. Soap-trade will able to sustain the economy again in Dominica.

DCP Successor company is looking to expand their soap trade by exporting small flakes or chips of soap to other CARICOM countries like Jamaica.

Soap-trade has the potential to increase the statistics in the economy of the nation. It will not only add economy but can become a geographical indication all over the world.
