World: According to research published Friday, More number of twins, almost one in 40 children, are being born than ever before.

It is summoning the rapid elevation in medically assisted reproduction as a colossal factor. In a paper published in the scientific journal Human Reproduction, researchers said that “more than 1.6 million twins(infants) are now born every year.”

Professor Christiaan Monden, (UK) of the University of Oxford, one of the reports illustrator, stated, “The relative and absolute numbers of twins in across the world are higher than they have ever been since the mid-twentieth decade, and this is likely to be an all-time high.”

The increment of assisted reproductive technology (ART) in the developed nation since the 1970s contributed to the increase in multiple births, they said, as did mothers giving birth at an older age, when the twinning status is higher.

Some reasons can explain the cause. It includes increased utilization of contraception practices, females choosing to start families much later in their life(older), and lower overall fertility was also accountable.

The rates of twin births were highest in Africa country, citing “genetic differences” between the continent and the rest of the worldwide.

One of the scientists stated the increased number of twins (infants) in more inferior parts of across the world concerned. Scientists gathered respective data from 135 nations from 2010-2015 for the report.

“In sub-Saharan Africa in particular, many twins(infants) will lose their co-twin(chances are high often) in the first year of their life, some two to three hundred thousand each year according to our earlier report.”

Researchers said the record number was solely driven by births of “fraternal twins” derived from two different fertilized eggs.

The scientific term stated that the number of identical twins(eggs) known as monozygotic remained similar.

“More attention requires to be given to the fate of twins(infants) in low and middle-income nations, which is the matter of concern,” co-author Jeroen Smits said.

“Twin deliveries (infants) are related with higher death-rates among babies and children, and more complications for mothers and kids during pregnancy has been observed… pre and post-delivery,” Monden added.
