PM Skerrit thanks Govt of Mexico, as it donates COVID-19 vaccines to Dominica

Dominica: The Ministry of Foreign of Mexico has announced that this week it has delivered around 2,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Dominica on Thursday. This donation was made in solidarity and cooperation with the nations under the instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The leader of the mission was the Executive Director of the Mexican.

This donation by the Mexican government was praised by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. The PM thanked the government on Mexico during the weekly episode of Annou Pale; he further took social media and wrote, “On Thursday evening, Dominica received another supply of life-saving vaccines from the Government of Mexico to boost the stock that is already available to every eligible Dominican. I thank the government and people of Mexico for this generous donation.”

The containments, carrying vaccines, were received in Dominica by the acting Health Minister – Kent Edwards, and the Health Ministry Permanent Secretary – Letitia Lestrade-Wyke.

These containers were shipped by the Direct Relief organization and were transported in aircraft of the Mexican Air Force. The donations were made to make their contribution to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the government of Mexico, this delivery has been made to reaffirm its commitment to the Latin American and Caribbean region to guarantee equitable access to vaccines.

The government has also made a donation to another Caribbean nation – St Vincent and the Grenadines on the next day, February 18, 2022. The nation received around 10,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The shipment, in St Vincent and the Grenadines, was received by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade – Keisal M. Peters, and the honorary consul of Mexico – Joel Providence.
