PM Pierre attends CELAC summit 2024, focuses regional & citizens security

Castries, Saint Lucia: Prime Minister Philip J Pierre attended the Eighth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) in St Vincent and the Grenadines on Friday. 

He attended the one-day meeting along with other Caribbean leaders and discussed various topics of concern. The summit featured talks regarding food security, climate change, peace, healthcare, sustainable development goals, and citizens’ security. 

PM Pierre was joined by the Minister for External Affairs, International Trade, and Civil Aviation- Alva Baptiste, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

The agenda of the CELAC summit was to bring together the heads of Caribbean states, promote political relations and social and cultural integration, raise the living standards of the people, and bring prosperity to the lives of the citizens. 

The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia talked about the measures to strengthen the relations between the states and have detailed discussions to combat the problem of crimes in the states. 

PM Pierre returned from the 46th CARICOM meeting on Thursday to address urgent national matters, including citizen security. 

Before visiting St Vincent and Grenadines, PM Pierre met the Attorney General and the police to address the crucial issues of the state, with a primary focus on curbing criminal activities in the Federation. 

He received a progress report from the Department of Police on their ongoing efforts to trace the individual’s connection in a series of shooting incidents. He noted the murders are mostly gun-violence related. PM Pierre expressed his commitment to stopping the senseless shootings in the areas of Saint Lucia as his top priority. 

The prime minister kept his word as after settling the important matters in his homeland, he immediately arrived for the CELAC summit.

The meeting is expected to bring positive results and foster the bilateral relations of Caribbean countries as the summit features important collaboration and discussions. 

PM Pierre returned to Saint Lucia on the same day via the Regional Security System (RSS).
