Georgetown, Guyana: The Board of Industrial Training (BIT) and the Ministry of Labour of Guyana has introduced Lexroy Cyrus, a resident of Region Five, who has finally realized his childhood dream of becoming a certified electrician. He has fulfilled his aim with the regular assistance of BIT.

He stated that his desire to become a professional electrician was simply to be closer to his father, who was once a certified Electrical Engineer. “My father was never a part of my life when I was younger, so growing up as a youngster, I wanted to be just like him, but my financial situation was not good enough to even attend Government Technical Institute,” he explained.

Cyrus stated that not being able to pursue his dream was a difficult pill to swallow until one day in 2022 when he was talking with his friends about his dreams and what they meant to him.

At the time, they mentioned an ongoing Electrical Installation programme offered by the Board of Industrial Training at the Mahaicony Technical and Vocational Training Centre (MTVTC).

“It was like a light bulb moment, so I asked them to tell me more about the list of courses, especially the course I had so desperately wanted to be a part of, and they did. So, I applied, was accepted, and the rest is history,” he explained.

Cyrus described his experience as exactly what he had envisioned many years ago, and he is blessed to have been a part of it. He stated that despite arriving late to the course, he was able to grasp both the theoretical and practical aspects being taught. He attributed this to the support of the agency’s outstanding instructors and Technical Officer, Jennel Washington.

“The instructors always go the extra mile for us to make sure whatever they taught was simplified for us to properly understand. During that time, I got to know a lot of new things that I had no idea about,” Cyrus explained.

And for that, he expressed gratitude to the agency for providing him with the opportunity to realize a long-held childhood dream. To that end, he encourages others to take advantage of the Board of Industrial Training’s programs in order to become employable.
