He took social media to highlight the scholarships granted to the youth. He also pointed out the scholarships attained to provide assistance during the hurricane recovery in 2017.
“As Foreign Minister of my beloved St Kitts and Nevis, I did my very best to represent us on every stage, including the biggest stages in the world. When I begged, I begged for scholarships for our youth and assistance for our development and in 2017 assistance for hurricane recovery,” Brantley stated.
He further stated that he never once embarrassed our country nor begged anyone for anything for me personally, and he loved nice shoes and watches but always bought his own.
While remembering an old interview with a renowned news channel, Brantley stated, “This interview with the BBC attracted international attention as I became the principal Caribbean voice for the Windrush generation after the issue had been brought to the fore by the exceptional work
“After this interview and a series of other interviews done by me with Channel 4, BBC Radio, BBC Scotland, CNN and Russia Today and the pressure brought by other Caribbean and UK interventions, the UK Government reversed their earlier decision not to meet Caribbean leaders, and our leaders were afforded a meeting with PM Theresa May at No 10,” he recalled.
He further said that the advocacy of St Kitts and Nevis compelled the UK government to change policy, set up a compensation scheme for victims of this scandal and caused the resignation of Home Secretary Amber Rudd. Thousands of Caribbean nationals benefitted.
