St Kitts and Nevis: Governor-General of the twin-island Federation SW Tapley Seaton has replied to the letter written by seven (7) Members of Parliament of St Kitts and Nevis regarding expressing no-confidence in the current Prime Minister, Dr Timothy Harris.

While responding to the MPs, the Governor-General stated, “Dear Elected Representatives, I wish to acknowledge receipt of a communication addressed to me. It bears no date”.

Seaton further assured that he would seek formal legal advice and revert as soon as possible. The letter read, “I note the request contained therein. Consistent with my duty to seek formal legal advice, I wish to advise that I will do so and revert to you at the earliest”.

The Governor-General issued the letter on April 21, 2022.

The seven Members of Parliament (4 leaders of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and the remaining 3 were from Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM)) who wrote the letter to the Governor-General are –Shawn K Richards, Eugene Hamilton, Lindsey Grant, Jonel Powell and Mark Brantley, Eric Evelyn and Alexis Jeffers.

The letter, written by the seven members, expressed “no-confidence” in PM Harris and asked Governor-General to elect the leader of PAM and Deputy Prime Minister – Shawn K Richards as the new Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis.

Richards outlined, “Seven Members of Parliament have shown no-confidence in Dr Harris and want Shawn Richards as new Prime Minister of the Caribbean Federation.” Furthermore, the PAM leader expressed that the members are also ready to contest in the general elections.

Earlier, on April 20, 2022, Premier of Nevis and leader of CCM – Mark Brantley criticized PM Harris for not following the principles of Team Unity. He also highlighted that both leaders (Brantley and Richards) tried to save Team Unity, but they failed because of the negligence of Dr Timothy Harris.

Reportedly, St Kitts and Nevis might witness general elections in the next 21 days.
