Guyana: Prez Irfaan Ali visits Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in India

Guyana: The President of the Republic of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali who is currently on the business trip to India, visited India’s state-owned aerospace and defence company—Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, in Kanpur, India, on January 13, 2023.

During the visit, President Ali was given a presentation on the company’s capacity and capabilities. He was also given a guided tour of the company’s aircraft manufacturing facilities and invited to plant a tree to mark the occasion of his visit.

The meeting was attended by the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Hugh Todd, the Minister within the Local Government and Regional Development Ministry, Anand Persaud and other government officials and members of the local private sector.

The visit of President Ali depicts the strong bond between Guyana and India, it is believed that two countries with a long and prosperous diplomatic relationship. The two countries have a close partnership and have been working together on various initiatives for decades.

Guyana is a small country located in South America and is bordered by Brazil, Suriname and Venezuela. It is one of the few countries in the region where English is the primary language and its population is largely of African, Indian and Chinese descent.

India is one of the largest countries in the world and has a population of over 1.3 billion people. India is also the world’s largest democracy and has a very diverse population with multiple religions, languages and cultures.

Guyana and India have been engaged in diplomatic relations since 1966 when both countries established their respective diplomatic missions in each other’s capitals. Since then, both countries have maintained a close relationship and have worked together on various initiatives.

The two countries have signed numerous bilateral agreements in areas such as trade, investment, science and technology, culture, education, health and defence. India has also provided Guyana with much-needed aid and technical assistance.

In addition, Guyana and India are members of the Commonwealth of Nations, the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Both countries also have strong ties to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

The two countries also share a vibrant cultural exchange. Every year, hundreds of Indian students travel to Guyana to study at its universities and colleges. In addition, many Guyanese students travel to India to pursue higher education. Guyana and India have a long and prosperous relationship that continues to grow with each passing year. Both countries are committed to strengthening their partnership and working together to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
