Guyana: Prez Ali meets EU Ambassador to Guyana Fernando Ponz Canto during courtesy visit at Office

Guyana: President Irfaan Ali said that the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Guyana, Fernando Ponz Canto.

Guyana: President Irfaan Ali said that the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Guyana, Fernando Ponz Canto, has led with “integrity and character” while expressing gratitude for his support during a courtesy visit today at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive.

The Head of State told the outgoing Ambassador that he is “grateful and thankful” for his support during his tenure and said that he looks forward to the diplomat’s support for Guyana and the Caribbean Region.

Ambassador Canto, who will be leaving Guyana at the end of the month, thanked President Ali for his friendship and assured him that he and the EU would continue to contribute to the progress of Guyana.

The Ambassador, who spent almost three years in Guyana, will now head to the EU headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

Earlier, during the visit to Brazil, President Irfaan Ali, along with Prime Minister of Barbados – Mia Amor Mottley and their delegations, visited Frigo 10, a state-of-the-art abattoir, during a visit to Brazil on August 22.

The two Regional leaders travelled to Brazil for a meeting with the Governor of Roraima, Antonio Denarium, at the Governor’s Palace in Boa Vista.

Discussions focused on agriculture, trade, infrastructure and strengthening bilateral relations between Guyana, Barbados and Boa Vista.

Guyana’s Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond and senior officials of the Barbadian Government were also present.

Guyanese President Ali and Barbadian Prime Minister Amor-Mottley have also toured a soybean processing facility in the Brazilian State of Roraima to get a first-hand look at the operations.

Guyana recently commenced large-scale soybean cultivation at Ebini in the Berbice River.
